IN BLOOM

In Bloom is a project that is focused on all things green fingered! Community growing is nothing new, but here at Outside Lives we are passionate about ensuring that people have access to our site to grow produce and harness the many physical and mental health benefits of gardening and growing together!

THE POLYTUNNEL

Recently, with the help of some of our volunteers we put up our wonderful polytunnel on site. After toiling in the hot sun, the ground was prepped and the previous vegetable garden and patio cleared in readiness for the new polytunnel. Incredible work – take a look at the before and after on our video below…

As an accessible organisation, we needed to make some essential enhancements to the inside including laying a hard concrete pathway that could easily accommodate wheelchair users and walkways made from recycled decking gifted to us.

In true OL style, we have made the space beautiful, hanging wonderful willow swallows created by one of our lovely groups recently. We’ve also been super busy sewing seeds for next year – thanks to everyone involved in helping us!

A BIG thanks as always to our funders on this brilliant community growing project the Soil Association Food for LifeCommunity Foundation Wales and Flintshire Local Voluntary Council (FLVC) – without whose support this would never have been possible.

FURTHER GARDEN SUPPORT RECEIVED!

We’re delighted to have recently been awarded a new garden package by environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy. In fact… we’re one of the first organisations in the country to benefit from this amazing new package!

We’ll be using it to further develop our fruit, pollinator/wildlife and food growing garden onsite. All the plants, tools and materials are being provided for free by Keep Wales Tidy which is just wonderful!

The initiative is part of a wider Welsh Government ‘Local Places for Nature’ fund committed to creating, restoring and enhancing nature ‘on your doorstep’. There are hundreds of free garden packages are available.

To apply for a package for your community or organisation, visit the Keep Wales Tidy website www.keepwalestidy.cymru/nature

THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS & FUNDERS!
